Chambers County Sheriff’s Office announces arrest on sexual assault warrant with immigration detainer

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office announced May 5 that Alfredo Diaz-Gonzales, 36, of Baytown, was booked into the county jail on an outstanding warrant and indictment for sexual assault.

The booking record listed Chambers County Sheriff’s Office as the arresting agency and showed Diaz-Gonzales was booked on April 17. The record also listed an immigration detainer, according to BustedNewspaper.

Texas Department of Public Safety data shows that illegal noncitizens were charged with 7,656 sexual assault charges as part of more than 599,000 criminal charges recorded in the state. The data also showed more than 226,000 convictions, including 3,931 sexual assault convictions, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the figures include criminal charges and convictions counted across the criminal histories of illegal noncitizens identified through the agency’s data system. The records reflect 10,178 sexual assault charges over those individuals’ criminal careers, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office handles law enforcement and jail operations throughout the county. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne has led the department since 2013 and previously served with the Texas Department of Public Safety, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
