U.S. Representative Ed Case, who has represented Hawaii’s 1st district in Congress since 2019, recently posted a series of updates on social media addressing legislative developments and advocacy efforts relevant to his constituents.
On September 12, 2025, Case stated his opposition to the initial version of the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), despite its inclusion of provisions he requested for Hawai’i and the Indo-Pacific region. He wrote, “Despite inclusion of many of my requests for Hawai’i and the Indo-Pacific, I voted against the first version of our annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) because it provides no real Congressional oversight and correction of the dangerous path this administration is”.
The following day, September 13, 2025, Case highlighted a meeting with representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawaii. He said, “I welcomed Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawaii’s (https://t.co/4qHV0eUxC5) Theresa Ann Paulette, Brittany Cass and Chanda Park to discuss our further impaired driving prevention efforts. Each has suffered such tragic personal loss at the hands of a drunk driver and is deeply”.
On September 14, 2025, Case reported on his support for NOAA’s work during appropriations discussions for the Commerce-Justice-Science federal funding bill. He noted efforts to increase transparency within federal agencies: “In Appropriarions on our last of twelve annual federal funding bills (Commerce-Justice-Science), I supported the important work of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and got our committee to require the federal Bureau of Prisons to fully disclose to Congress”.
Case was born in Hilo, Hawaii in 1952 and currently resides in Kāneʻohe. Before joining Congress in 2019—succeeding Colleen Hanabusa—he served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1994 to 2002. Case holds a BA from Williams College and a JD from UC Hastings.
