Janis Holt, a Republican recently elected to the Texas State House representing the 18th district, used her social media platform in early August 2025 to address ongoing issues involving Democratic members of the House.

On August 8, Holt posted: “If the democrats do not show up today at 1:00pm, then we must vacate their seats. This is not 2021. The games will not be rewarded.” Later that day, she provided an update on disciplinary actions taken against absent members: “Now, 30% of the House budgets of the derelict Democrat members has been cut. They must pay the $500 per day fine plus the cost of being returned to the Capitol. Speaker @Burrows4TX is doing everything he can do without having a quorum. We, the House body, will address rules”. On August 11, Holt continued urging attendance by writing: “1:00pm tomorrow, I’ll be there ready to work? Will your Democrat representative?”

Holt assumed office in 2025 after winning election to represent Texas’s 18th House district and succeeding Ernest Bailes. Her recent statements come amid tensions over legislative attendance and efforts by Republican leadership—including Speaker Burrows—to enforce participation and address procedural rules within a divided chamber.
