Rep. Jodey Arrington, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 19th district since 2017, recently shared his concerns about the national debt through a series of tweets. Arrington, who succeeded Randy Neugebauer and is an alumnus of Texas Tech University, highlighted critical financial issues facing the United States.

On May 9, 2025, Arrington tweeted about the alarming rate at which the country is accruing debt: “We’re borrowing $250,000,000 an hour. $6,000,000,000 a day.” He expressed concern that such borrowing levels are unsustainable if the nation aims to avoid a sovereign debt crisis.

Later that day, he addressed the costs associated with servicing this debt: “We’re paying a trillion dollars just to service our national debt,” noting that this expenditure surpasses what is spent on defense and Medicare benefits combined. He emphasized that continuing with “business as usual” would exacerbate these financial challenges.

The following day on May 10, 2025, Arrington posted another tweet simply stating: “Making America Affordable Again”, suggesting a focus on economic policies aimed at addressing affordability issues in the country.

Jodey Arrington was born in Plainview, Texas in 1972 and currently resides in Lubbock. His educational background includes graduating from Texas Tech University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
