The Greater Houston Community Foundation's COVID-19 Recovery Fund has grown to nearly $17 million through the contributions of various foundations, corporations and individuals.
According to a press release by The Foundation, the charitable donations are in response to the rising economic difficulties experienced by the area’s most vulnerable residents as they struggle to meet basic needs during a surging pandemic.
The fund is a joint effort by United Way of Greater Houston and the Greater Houston Community Foundation in response to the catastrophic conditions created by the unprecedented economic impact caused by COVID-19. The fund has so far dispersed $12 million in grants to local nonprofits to focus on the urgent needs of the community's most vulnerable citizens and will continue to work with partners in the community for the upcoming months to reach the needs of struggling residents.
Among recent contributions are donations from ConocoPhillips ($200,000) and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. ($125,000).
Donations can be made at the fund’s website or via sending a text text to 4144.
