Greater Houston Partnership President and CEO Bob Harvey is encouraged by Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to expand business reopenings.
Abbott's COVID-19 reopening plan divides the state into 22 regions, with 19 seeing relaxed restrictions.
Abbott issued an executive order on Sept. 17 expanding occupancy levels for public areas such as restaurants, office buildings, retails stores, museums, libraries, classes, manufacturing facilities, gym and exercise facilities for the majority of Texas. He also announced new regulations for nursing homes and long-term care facility visitations.
Though pleased with reopening a greater portion of the economy of the state despite the pandemic, Harvey believes it should be done “safely and sustainably.”
“Houstonians have shown we can manage COVID-19 in our community by wearing masks, washing our hands and keeping our distance from others,” he said. “ As the economy continues to reopen, it is crucial that we continue these practices to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our families, our employees, and our community. If we all do our part, we can enjoy a better quality of life this fall."
