6.5% of Harris County residents considered unemployed in 2021

Harris County recorded an unemployment rate of 6.5% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That’s 156,545 people out of the 4,697,957 living in Harris County at the time, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The unemployment rate in Harris County has increased compared to the 6.2% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in Harris County was greater than the statewide unemployment rate of 5.3%.

Of the 2,260,123 people who had a job during that time, 2,576 were employed in the Armed Forces and 2,257,547 belonged to the civilian labor force.
