Houston-area superintendents try to sway health department away from school closures

Superintendents from 10 Houston-area school districts wrote a letter last month to Harris County Health Department Executive Director Dr. Umair Shah, expressing their concerns over remote learning in schools and suggesting that continuing to delay in-person teaching will harm students.

DuPont to pay $6.2 million in fines for fatal LaPorte plant explosion, other violations

The Environmental Protection Agency, Justice Department and State of Texas have settled with the chemical company DuPont, which will pay $3.1 million in civil penalties in addition to $3.1 million paid in 2018 for a fatal plant explosion in La Porte and past violations of water and air standards.
