The City of Pasadena recently commenced redevelopment work on the Shaw Avenue area.
According to a news release by the city, the restoration of the Shaw Avenue area has been planned since 2018 and the timeline for these improvements align perfectly with the completion of the Pasadena Economic Development Corp.’s Strategic Plan that identifies the area as one of several major corridors in Historic Pasadena in need of redevelopment.
“Community Input has been a priority for this administration and this project is a perfect example,” Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner said.
The Pasadena Economic Development Corp. Board of Directors allocated $2.8 million in funding to carry out this major development project. Recently, the design for the new street was unveiled featuring recommendations from local stakeholders including on-street parking, wider sidewalks, improved lighting, and landscaping.
"While this project is one that has been on the books for a couple of years, we were fortunate to receive additional community input and technical assistance through the Livable Centers Planning effort,” Sheena Salvino, redevelopment manager for Pasadena Economic Development Corp., said.
The improvements span from Carl Street to McMasters, with most of the pedestrian amenities being installed between Shaver Street and Spooner Street.
“This area is ripe for redevelopment: it has a dense mixture of land uses, public open space, and contains buildings with street frontage and great adaptive reuse potential,” Salvino said.
The project is projected to complete construction in 12 months.
