Tarkington ISD schools Education: 14 African American students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 14 African American students enrolled in Tarkington ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 100% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Tarkington ISD schools welcomed 1,893 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 0.7% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Tarkington ISD roughly covers schools within Liberty County and has a main office in Cleveland.

Among the four schools in Tarkington ISD schools, Tarkington Intermediate School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of seven students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
